The quality and technique of textile washing in a hotel not only impacts the quality of service but also significantly affects the lifespan of textiles. Data indicates that textiles washed using scientific methods can more than double the lifespan of those washed improperly. Based on extensive experience, the author recommends the following points:
1. The laundry equipment models and performance characteristics of each hotel vary, so appropriate washing processes and procedures must be developed. Key technical parameters for developing a washing process include wash time, temperature, speed, program, appropriate detergent dosage, and load capacity. Washing procedures, in turn, are dependent on water quality, the condition of the laundry, the washing chemicals, the equipment, and the water level.
2. The textile materials used for laundry vary, such as pure cotton, polycotton, and polyester, and therefore require different washing processes based on their quality. For example, pure cotton and polycotton require different wash temperatures, with the main wash temperature for polycotton below 70°C.
3. The number of items to be washed depends on the capacity of the laundry equipment. Excessive or insufficient amounts of laundry in wash water containing a certain proportion of chemicals will affect the washing results and the durability of the items.
4. Be sure to select high-quality, suitable detergents and adjust the dosage appropriately for the wash items and washing environment. Failure to distinguish between wash items and using indiscriminate detergents will not only affect the washing results but, in severe cases, damage the textiles.
5. Before washing, first sort the laundry by intended use, such as tablecloths, sheets, towels, quilt covers, pillowcases, etc. Then, sort by color. Treating different colors together can cause cross-contamination. Similarly, different colored items require different treatments. In particular, bleached and colored items should not be mixed. Also, sort by the degree of soiling, generally categorized as heavy, medium, and light. Bath towels, floor towels, hand towels, and face towels vary in thickness and softness, and are susceptible to varying degrees of contamination. Mixing them together in the wash can easily cause excessive friction. Therefore, these four types of towels can be washed separately: bath towels, floor towels, and hand towels and face towels.
6. Stir all chemicals thoroughly in the wash water to prevent local damage to the items being washed.
7. Observe the mirror during high-speed spin drying. If tangles are observed, stop the machine immediately and recondition it before continuing. If using a dehydrator, use a clean cover to minimize damage.
8. After washing, avoid pulling too hard when unloading items. Fabrics are weaker when wet than when dry, and strong pulling can easily damage them.
9. Use appropriate drying procedures, with different drying temperatures, drying times, and cooling times for different textiles, to prevent shrinkage, yellowing, brittleness, and stiffness.
10. Regularly check the inner wall of the washing equipment for burrs. If burrs are found, they should be removed in time.
